The cellphone company Jolla released it’s SailfishOS based cellphone Wednesday evening with hopes of conquering the world.
The first 450 devices were sold to visitors at the release party, arranged by the Finnish phone operator DNA, who had already per-ordered the cellphone. Rest of the per-ordered cellphones will be delivered shortly and afterwards there will be units for sale at DNA stores all around Finland.
CEO Tomi Pienimäki said, “at this point it was important to show, that Jolla could finish the product and get it out on the market for sale”.
“We don’t try to sell big volumes at this point”, said Pienimäki.
“We gear up, first in Finland, then in Europe and after that in China”
Jolla will not try to become one of the big ones among the cellphone brands. Pienimäki said that the goal was to get an sale of a million units per year.
