HBO lies to customers that they support Linux

It took quite a long time for HBO Nordic to release their site, which allows Scandinavian users to see series quite soon after they have been shown in US. As usually Linux users did ask HBO if it would work with Linux and

HBO Suomi HBO Suomi

#HBOnordic will work with Linux, if your have a browser that supports Linux.

Reading the HBO Nordic FAQ it says following:

System Requirements

  • The latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
  • An Internet connection of 1 Mbps or greater for SD content, 4 Mbps or greater for HD content.

When logged in and trying to watch something, you will be greated by the following message:

You need a Widevine plugin before you can start watching.

To watch movies and shows on your computer, a simple one time install is needed for your web browser.

When you try to install the Widevine from Google, you will be told that you need to downgrade to microsoft windows or buy yourself an Apple computer, as Google do not support Desktop Linux, only embedded machines running on Linux like TV and STB. So to all you Linux users out there, HBO do not support Linux, they tell you so only to catch you in the 12 months subscription with no option to be able to see what you are paying for.
